Jonathan Goldberg is the founder and CEO of Carbon Direct Capital, a global investment firm with a science-focused approach on carbon management. Founded in 2019, Carbon Direct Capital combines deep investment expertise with scientific and technical rigor to maximize climate impact and financial returns. Carbon Direct Capital’s growth equity investment strategy backs leading companies in carbon management, including clean energy and decarbonization solutions and related technologies. Through its nature-based solutions strategy, Carbon Direct Capital invests in high-integrity, nature-based carbon removal projects—primarily Improved Forest Management (IFM) and Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR).
Jon has held various leadership positions within energy and finance throughout his 20+ year career. Prior to Carbon Direct Capital, Jon was the founder and CIO at BBL Commodities, a commodity hedge fund. Prior to BBL Commodities, he was a partner at Glencore, managing the firm’s US derivative business prior to its IPO. Jon initially began his career at J. Aron, the commodities division of Goldman Sachs, where he invested across global macro markets with an emphasis on commodities.
Jon currently sits on the boards of Village Health Works and Columbia University’s Center for Global Energy Policy. He is an advisor to Lawrence Livermore National Lab on negative emissions and the co-chair of SB COP’s Nature-Based Solutions Working Group. Jon is a regular lecturer and contributor on climate, sustainability, and carbon-related issues. He graduated from Yale College with a degree in economics.
